Tesla‘s Chief Financial Officer, Zach Kirkhorn, has resigned, effective August 4th, according to a regulatory filing by the automaker. Tesla’s Chief Accounting Officer, Vaibhav Taneja, has been appointed as the new CFO and will serve in both roles simultaneously.
Following the news, Tesla’s stock price experienced a decline of approximately 2.5%.
Kirkhorn will remain with Tesla until the end of the year to facilitate a smooth transition, as stated in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. He had been serving as CFO since March 2019 and had been employed by Tesla since 2010.
“As I transition my responsibilities, I would like to express my gratitude to the talented and dedicated employees at Tesla, who have achieved remarkable accomplishments that many believed were impossible,” Kirkhorn shared on LinkedIn.
This marks the second time in just over four years that Tesla has undergone a CFO change. When former CFO Deepak Ahuja resigned in 2019, Tesla’s stock price decreased by as much as 4.5%.
Vaibhav Taneja, who previously served as Tesla’s Chief Accounting Officer, has been with the company since 2017. He joined Tesla through its acquisition of solar installer SolarCity for $2.6 billion. Prior to that, Taneja worked at PwC for approximately 17 years. PwC serves as Tesla’s auditor.
