Terrified: On the Loose, Unveiling the Man Who Killed Her Sister

After more than a week of his escape from a Pennsylvania prison, Danelo Cavalcante has left the family of the woman he murdered “terrified,” according to the Chester County district attorney. “They are terrified and they have protection. They haven’t left their home,” said DA Deb Ryan in a statement to reporters on Thursday, as reported by NBC News. “They’re barricaded inside and extremely concerned about their safety. We have police details around them 24 hours a day, but I can see that they’re very, very worried.” In 2021, Cavalcante fatally stabbed his former girlfriend, Deborah Brandão, in front of her young children, aged 7 and 4. “I haven’t been able to sleep in many days. Since (his escape), I wake up in the middle of the night with fright. I take naps and still wake up scared,” said Brandão’s sister, who is now taking care of her sister’s children, as mentioned in CNN.

According to Sarah Brandão, Cavalcante used to be her sister’s neighbor in Chester County and initially treated her and her children kindly. However, after being together for a year and a half, he became jealous and threatening, leading to their breakup. “I felt desperate, extremely scared. Of course, I thought about my children,” said Sarah Brandão, who still resides in Chester County. CNN reports that there have been at least eight sightings of Cavalcante since his escape on August 31, with the most recent being on Thursday night. (Read more Pennsylvania stories.)
