Aug. 31 (UPI) — A remarkable achievement has been unlocked by a woman in Tennessee, as she has earned the prestigious Guinness World Record for having the longest competitive mullet. Tami Manis proudly holds this title, with the measurement of the “party in the back” segment of her hair reaching an astonishing 5 feet, 8 inches in length.

Tami Manis earned this title, known as the female version of the mullet length record, as per the official announcement made by Guinness World Records. To achieve this remarkable feat, she has refrained from cutting the hair at the back of her head since February 9, 1990. While Tami keeps the front and sides of her hair short, she has demonstrated her commitment to her unique hairstyle by preserving the mullet that she originally grew in 1990, inspired by a girl in the famous “Voices Carry” music video by Til Tuesday. Since then, she has refused to part ways with her mullet, which has become an important and memorable part of her identity.

Tami Manis expressed her surprise and amusement at the impact her hairstyle has had on people’s memories. She shared, “The weirdest thing I find is that people remember me from years ago. I’ve had people recognize me from 20 years ago because I’ve kept the same hairstyle.”

Prior to achieving the Guinness World Record, Tami Manis showcased her exceptional hairstyle at the 2022 U.S. Mullet Championships, where she secured second place in the “femullet” category. Her remarkable performance in this competition earned her a well-deserved prize of $300. However, her journey did not end there, as she discovered shortly after the contest that Guinness World Records had opened a category specifically for the longest competitive mullet.

Although the application process for the Guinness World Record was lengthy and complex, Tami Manis persevered. Her efforts paid off when she received a certificate at her home, confirming her status as a record holder. Overwhelmed with joy, she expressed, “When I opened it, I thought, ‘This is amazing.’ I confirmed it with the gentleman from Guinness World Records and then I reverified that I’m actually in the 2024 edition of Guinness World Records for the longest mullet, and that is pretty amazing!”
