Tenant criticizes Tarek El Moussa’s dismissive reaction to luxury apartment project, accusing him of branding them as dishonest.

A dissatisfied tenant has expressed their disappointment with HGTV star Tarek El Moussa’s denial of evicting residents from their homes in North Hollywood, California, to build a luxury apartment project. El Moussa posted a statement on social media, which one tenant characterized as deceptive. Clare Letmon, an organizer and tenant of the Hartsook Street bungalows, spoke out about the impact of El Moussa’s NoHo 138 project on her and her family in an interview with People magazine.

El Moussa’s response came after tenants accused him of evicting them and destroying their lives for his luxury project. However, Letmon revealed that they haven’t had any direct communication with El Moussa since July 14, despite their multiple requests for a meeting. One of Letmon’s elderly neighbors, Cathy, has resided on the property for over 40 years.

In defense, El Moussa’s representative stated that the residents’ lawyer has been in contact with the project’s partners, and a meeting is being arranged. Letmon mentioned receiving an email on the same day El Moussa made his social media statement. While acknowledging that El Moussa isn’t personally responsible for the evictions, Letmon emphasized that the current landlord is only displacing them to make way for the HGTV star’s project.

Letmon described her bungalow in North Hollywood as a “miracle home” with beautiful greenery and historic trees. She expressed her heartbreak at the thought of seeing this place demolished.

El Moussa took to Instagram to clarify his involvement in the project and address the accusations. He stressed that he and his partners are purchasing the Hartsook property for redevelopment, but they are not responsible for serving eviction notices. El Moussa claimed that the city of Los Angeles made the determination to construct a new structure on the premises and requested the removal of the existing structures as per California Civil Code Section 1946.

Construction on the NoHo 138 project, which El Moussa is undertaking with his wife Heather Rae Young’s company and other partners, is expected to begin in 2024.

Overall, the tenant’s concerns about their eviction and El Moussa’s response have sparked controversy surrounding the luxury apartment project in North Hollywood.
