A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday for the alleged murder of a 34-year-old store clerk during a robbery at a market in West Covina. The incident occurred at Big Bob’s Liquors & Market located at 1413 W. Puente Ave, and the victim, Karanvir Singh, was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body by police officers who arrived at the scene at around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, as reported by the West Covina Police Department.
After stealing merchandise, the two suspects were confronted by the clerk and in the ensuing confrontation, he was shot multiple times. The suspects fled in a white SUV, according to West Covina Police Sergeant C. Tedesco.
One of the suspects, a 17-year-old, has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Due to his age, the suspect’s identity has not been released. The teenager is currently being held at a juvenile detention center and is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on Friday at the Pomona Courthouse.
As the investigation into the shooting continues, detectives are asking the public for help in identifying the second suspect.
