A teenage boy is currently in custody in connection with a series of alleged hit-and-run incidents in Huntington Beach, one of which resulted in a fatality.
The suspect, who cannot be named due to being a minor, was apprehended at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday, as confirmed by Jessica Cuchilla, spokesperson for the Huntington Beach Police Department. The police have charged the boy with murder and assault with a deadly weapon and he has been remanded to Orange County Juvenile Hall.
Jessica Cuchilla also provided details stating that the authorities were notified of the first incident at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. A driver purposefully hit a cyclist at the intersection of Brad Drive and Edwards Street.
While the police were at the site of the first collision, which resulted in minor injuries for the victim, they were alerted to another hit-and-run at the crossroads of Heil Avenue and Springdale Street, where 70-year-old Steven Gonzales from Huntington Beach tragically lost his life as a result of the incident.
Subsequently, a third victim reported to the police that they had been struck by a hit-and-run driver at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Edwards Street around 10 p.m. on Sunday. This victim also suffered minor injuries.
