Teams Call It Quits Following Injury

The incident involving cornerback Isaiah Bolden on Saturday night not only worried his teammates but also brought back memories of Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin’s collapse during a game earlier this year. Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne described the situation as “scary,” according to the AP. Bolden suffered a head injury in a collision with a teammate during a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. He was hospitalized overnight for evaluation and was later released, as reported by CBS Sports.

When Bolden got injured, there was still more than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. However, both coaches immediately decided to call off the game. This decision was influenced by what happened to Hamlin in January, as Geoff Magliocchetti writes in Sports Illustrated. During that game, the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals were about to resume play after a five-minute warmup, but the coaches pulled the teams off the field. Bill Belichick of the Patriots and Matt LaFleur of the Packers didn’t hesitate to stop the game on Saturday. The Patriots’ Matthew Slater commended Belichick’s leadership, and LaFleur agreed that it was the right call for the situation.
