Tatiana Boncompagni, a well-known lifestyle influencer and writer associated with Goop and former spouse of the Hoover vacuum dynasty’s heir, is accused of deceiving a major investor by misrepresenting her trendy meal delivery startup. She convinced the co-owner of the Shoprite supermarket chain to invest six figures into the failing venture, known as Eat Sunny, by stating that the business was flourishing when it was actually tanking. In a lawsuit obtained by The Daily Beast, John Sumas, who filed the complaint, depicted Boncompagni as an “incompetent” CEO, and alleged that she was reckless and dishonest about the brand’s financial health. The suit accuses Boncompagni of fraud, and seeks the closure of Eat Sunny, along with damages. Boncompagni’s attorney, Richard Roth, defended her against the “outrageous” claims, insisting that the accusations were “frivolous and unsupportable.”
According to the lawsuit, Sumas alleges that Eat Sunny’s alleged success was, in reality, a “charade,” and that the company is now on the verge of bankruptcy with minimal cash reserves. He claims he was misled into making an investment in the business, which he has called “bogus” and a result of Boncompagni’s mismanagement. The suit further alleges that Boncompagni attempted to victimize herself by making “spurious allegations of harassment” against Sumas, demanding to be bought out at a highly exaggerated value. Roth claims that the situation between Boncompagni and Sumas unfolded following an inappropriate incident that led to an acrimonious exchange. The ongoing legal dispute continues to escalate as Sumas seeks to recover his investment, while Boncompagni asserts that the accusations against her are unsubstantiated.
