Taking a Stand: Uniting Against Brothels in Queens and Beyond – A Compilation of Powerful Letters

Protest Against Brothels

Kudos to the courageous parents and children who braved the rain to protest against the rise of brothels and prostitution rings on Roosevelt Avenue (“Give ‘red-light district’ hook,” Sept. 11).

This alarming situation exists because the Queens district attorney and local NYC politicians, including Sen. Julia Salazar, naively view prostitution as a mere career choice.

Progressives wrongly categorize prostitutes as sex workers and try to downplay the severe consequences of sex trafficking such as drug addiction, violence, and diseases.

Furthermore, they offer no support to organizations aiming to end sex trafficking and rescue numerous underage women trapped in these horrendous circumstances.

It’s time to vote out these misguided individuals.

An Unsettling Reality

Nicole Gelinas aptly points out that the behavior of crowds at the US Open encapsulates the larger problems not only in New York City, but in society as a whole (“Court Disorder,” PostOpinion, Sept. 11).

This is not limited to any particular political party’s supporters. It is evident that individuals who talk or text in movie theaters come from diverse political backgrounds.

It is not solely a reaction to COVID-19 restrictions, but rather a pre-existing trend. People were already speaking loudly on their cellphones during commutes, and now they even use speakerphones.

Both Porsche and Hyundai drivers are equally responsible for causing traffic accidents by texting while driving.

Attending a concert is no longer about enjoying the music and sharing the experience with others. Instead, it has become an opportunity for excessive selfies, hindering other people’s enjoyment. This “selfie” mentality prevails, where individuals prioritize their own world and disregard others.

The US Open reflects that rude behavior knows no class boundaries. Tennis and golf, once known for their decorum and silence, are now resembling the chaos of WWE.

Unless we address the pervasive selfishness in our society, we are headed towards a bleak future.

Lunacy of Bail Reform

According to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, thanks to bail reform, 20 drug dealers were automatically released while he could only watch helplessly (“Suffolk arrested 30 drug dealers, but bail laws meant 20 were let go,” Sept. 14).

Even though 399 people lost their lives to fentanyl overdose last year alone on the eastern half of Long Island, these dealers had to be released due to bail reform.

The DA also highlighted that New York’s loopholes are wide open, allowing drug dealers to continue exploiting the system.

It is puzzling why your article did not mention the politicians responsible for pushing bail reform, such as state Sens. Mike Gianaris, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Andrew Gounardes, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and Attorney General Tish James.

The list goes on, but the constant remains the same.

These career politicians prioritize their own interests and disregard our safety. They are only concerned with staying in office and cashing in on their six-figure, taxpayer-funded salaries.

It is high time they are held accountable. Let’s vote them out.

Animal Advocates

Regardless of one’s stance on animal welfare, it is inappropriate to label PETA as “lefties” (“PETA’s ‘Reporting’ Ploy,” Editorial, Sept. 10).

Animal welfare is not a matter of politics. In fact, historically, conservative Republicans have been at the forefront of this issue.

President Ronald Reagan, a classic conservative, cared deeply about animal welfare, and so do I. But neither of us can be considered “lefties.”
