Aug. 18 (UPI) — Quavo is back with new music.
The 32-year-old singer and rapper dropped his second solo album, Rocket Power, on Friday.
Rocket Power is a heartfelt dedication to Quavo’s beloved late nephew Takeoff, who was a member of the renowned hip-hop group Migos. Takeoff tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in Houston in November 2022 at the age of 28.
The album Rocket Power comprises 18 tracks, including “Fueled Up,” “Patty Cake,” and “Back Where It Begins,” which showcase the vocal talents of Takeoff.
Excited about the album release, Quavo took to Instagram to share photos of a Times Square billboard promoting Rocket Power.
“Do It For The Rocket #LongLiveTakeoff,” he wrote in the caption.
Quavo first announced the upcoming release of Rocket Power back in May.
“This album is dedicated to our true fans, the Rocket, and it serves as my therapy,” the star wrote. “It truly reflects how I feel right now. There are moments when I’m good, others when I’m down, and times when I’m disappointed or even fall apart. But I always manage to find my strength again. I understand that everything may not be alright at the moment, but the Rocket has shown me a way to make it right!”
He added, “Rocket Power keeps me moving forward. It fuels me and will help us all overcome whatever challenges we’re facing.”
Earlier this year, Quavo paid tribute to Takeoff in the song “Without You,” released in January.
Rocket Power is Quavo’s highly anticipated follow-up to his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho, which was released in 2018.
Migos, the popular hip-hop trio, also includes singer and rapper Offset. Their previous album, Culture III, was released in 2021 before the heartbreaking loss of Takeoff.
