Taiwan Calls Out Elon Musk’s Claim of Being ‘Part of China’ during All-in Summit

The Foreign Minister of Taiwan, Joseph Wu, strongly criticized Elon Musk on Thursday over his comments implying that Taiwan is still considered “part of China.”

Musk, who spoke remotely at the All-in Summit held in Los Angeles, stated that Beijing’s policy is to reunite Taiwan with China and claimed to have a good understanding of China as an outsider.

He added, “From their standpoint, you know, maybe it’s analogous to like Hawaii or something like that, like an integral part of China that is arbitrarily not part of China mostly because … the U.S. Pacific Fleet has stopped any sort of reunification by force.”

While Taiwan is a democratic island that China claims as its territory, Hawaii has been an official U.S. state since 1959.

Utilizing the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, Wu responded to Musk’s statement. He tweeted, “Listen up, Taiwan is not part of the [People’s Republic of China] & certainly not for sale!” from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs account.

The Taiwanese foreign minister also expressed hope for Musk to request the Chinese Communist Party to allow its people to access X, which Musk acquired in October 2022.

Social media platforms, including X, are currently heavily censored in mainland China by the authorities.

Musk’s relationship with China has been no secret, as earlier this year, he visited Shanghai to meet with officials and tour his Tesla factory situated in the city.
