Sutton, Dublin 13: Stunning Contemporary Seaside Home Worth €2.3m Set to Feature on RTÉ’s Selling Ireland’s Dream Homes

Fate intervened when three couples from the same family decided to build neighboring homes in D13. Cuala, a modern seaside home in Sutton, is set to be featured on RTÉ’s Selling Ireland’s Dream Homes. The extended O’Hare family, consisting of 10 members, collaborated to construct and furnish Cuala alongside two other planned homes. Financial adviser Adrian and his wife Nora, a primary school teacher, joined forces with Nora’s brother and his wife, as well as her parents, to create a unique housing solution.

In 2016, the O’Hare family purchased a run-down 1930s house in Sutton with a large garden area, promptly applying for permission to demolish it and build three contemporary homes. The design work was entrusted to Tyler Owens, a renowned architect firm known for its quality homes along the north city coast. Interestingly, Adrian and Peter Owens, the architect, had grown up across the road from one another in Drumaness, solidifying a personal connection to the project.

With Peter Owens’ guidance, each of the three homes was designed with a similar exterior, but the interiors were tailored to the preferences of each couple. Adrian and Nora’s home was the first to be completed, with the second nearing completion and the third just breaking ground. However, despite their initial plans to live side by side, unforeseen circumstances prevented all three couples from ultimately residing in the planned development.

The planning process faced significant delays, and the O’Hares went through a traumatic period when their daughter, Aralynn, fell seriously ill in 2018, resulting in a six-month coma. This life-changing event shifted their perspective and reinforced the importance of family. Additionally, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic further complicated matters, increasing costs and presenting a health risk to Aralynn. Faced with these challenges, the O’Hares decided to relocate north by the sea, closer to Adrian’s family.

Similar circumstances led Nora’s sister and her husband, as well as Nora’s parents, to decide to stay in their current locations rather than move to Cuala. After enjoying their time in the home for nearly a year, the O’Hares realized that fate had determined they were destined to live elsewhere.

Nora particularly appreciates the open and airy feel of the house, along with its practicality. The location offers a range of amenities within walking distance, including supermarkets, hairdressers, pharmacies, and coffee shops. The children also benefit from the proximity to their school and various recreational facilities. Nora feels grateful to have lived in such a beautiful area with its picturesque beaches, cliffs, and trails.

Due to these unforeseen circumstances, Cuala is now available for purchase through Karen Mulvaney for €2.3m. This A2-rated home spans over 4,000 sq ft and features underfloor heating, a Neptune bespoke kitchen, Carlson Alu Clad Tilt Turn windows, solid oak stairs, and luxurious bathrooms. The property offers stunning views from the balcony and comes with a spacious patio and a home cinema.

As Cuala awaits its forever owners, the story of its creation serves as a testament to the power of family and the unpredictable nature of life’s path.
