Suspension of Train Service Along the Perris Valley Line Scheduled for This Weekend

Metrolink will temporarily suspend service on the Perris Valley Line this weekend to facilitate construction work. This means that commuters will not be able to board or disembark at four stations between Riverside and Perris. The Riverside County Transportation Commission explained that the suspension is necessary for the Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvements Project. This decision was made to prioritize the safety of construction crews and ensure timely completion of the project.

The affected stations during the weekend suspension are Hunter Park in Riverside, the March Field stop in Moreno Valley, the downtown Perris station, and the South Perris station, according to the RCTC.

Passenger rail service will be unavailable at these stations during the closure. However, Metrolink will make alternative transportation arrangements for passengers needing to travel to destinations served by the Perris Valley Line.

Over the weekend, crews will be focusing on extending the train platform at the March Field station, improving a pedestrian crossing, and upgrading drainage channels. The $33 million Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvements Project began in October 2022 and aims to enhance the platform by accommodating all cars in the six-car trains. It also involves constructing a second platform and modifying 2.5 miles of track to prepare for a future nine-mile double-track corridor. The project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2024.
