Suspect’s Residence Suspected as Location for Gilgo Beach Killings, Investigators Say

According to a source connected to the investigation, the Gilgo Beach serial killer is suspected to have murdered the women while the family of the recently arrested suspect, Rex Heuermann, was out of town. The theory is that the killings occurred in Heuermann’s Massapequa Park, New York, home, which is less than six miles away from where the victims’ remains were found. Investigators are currently searching the home, meticulously combing for trace evidence that may be linked to the victims, causing the process to take some time.

Heuermann has been charged with the murders of three of the known victims, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. Additionally, he is the prime suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, known as the fourth victim of the “Gilgo Four.” Details from Heuermann’s bail application reveal that the victims had communication with burner phones leading up to their deaths. Cellphone data from one of the victims indicates that her last known location was Massapequa, on the day after she was last seen alive.

A neighbor of Heuermann’s has informed the New York Post that the suspect frequently burned garbage at his residence, sometimes even doing so in a hole he dug in his yard during the night. Investigators speculate, based on information from CNN’s source, that Heuermann may have lured the women to his home and carried out the killings there, allowing him to have control over the environment.
