Suspect Sought in Fatal Stabbing of Man at South Whittier Residence

Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in locating a man involved in a violent attack on two individuals in the Whittier area. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries from a stabbing and the perpetrator fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was later found in Chino.

The identity of the deceased victim has not been released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department pending notification of his family. The body was discovered on Tuesday afternoon at a residence on Goodhue Street.

During a news conference, Sheriff Robert Luna presented surveillance footage depicting the suspect entering the victim’s home on Monday afternoon. The suspect then quickly left the premises a couple of minutes later, driving away in the victim’s silver Toyota RAV4 (license number VPH289). The vehicle has since been recovered in Chino.

“Based on the surveillance video, we believe the murder took place on August 28th, around 2:45 p.m.,” Luna stated.

Additional security footage revealed the victim’s car being driven in Ontario around 3 a.m. on Tuesday and parked in Chino three hours later.

“We suspect that the suspect has been utilizing this vehicle for at least a day, possibly overnight. If anyone has spotted the vehicle anywhere between the Whittier area and Chino or Ontario, we urge you to immediately contact our homicide detectives,” urged the sheriff.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s with a dark complexion, standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He has short hair and was last seen wearing dark pants and a tan shirt. Luna speculated that the suspect may be homeless.

Detectives have reason to believe that the suspect also assaulted an elderly man on Fairview Street in Whittier shortly before the homicide. The attack was interrupted by the victim’s son, causing the suspect to flee the scene.

Sheriff Luna appealed to anyone with information about the case to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
