A 21-year-old man is set to appear in court for arraignment on Friday in Santa Ana. Aristeo Martinez, hailing from Phoenix, faces charges of murder in connection with the death of another man in the Gardenwalk parking structure back in May. Court records indicate that Martinez is charged with murder, with added penalties for discharging a firearm resulting in serious injury or death, as well as personal firearm use. He was apprehended in Arizona earlier this month and is scheduled for arraignment in Santa Ana’s jail courtroom.
This case involves the alleged killing of 32-year-old Deonte Marquis Lenin, who resided in Highland. According to Sgt. Jon McClintock of the Anaheim police, law enforcement responded to a large altercation at the shopping center located on West Katella Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on May 21.
McClintock stated that it is believed the individuals involved in the altercation had previously engaged in some form of dispute or fight at the HEAT Ultra Lounge, which is situated within the Gardenwalk shopping center.
The police investigation is ongoing, with the motive behind the fight still under examination. According to McClintock, there is no evidence to suggest that the parties involved were acquainted prior to the incident.
Upon arrival, responding officers discovered Lenin with one or more gunshot wounds, resulting in his death at the scene. Another victim, 21-year-old Elian Tanori Arvayo from Phoenix, was found elsewhere in the parking structure, having sustained “blunt force trauma,” according to McClintock. Arvayo was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Martinez, who is currently held at Maricopa County Jail, faces charges of killing Lenin. Meanwhile, investigators are still actively working on the other killing and have yet to identify a suspect.
