Suspect Flees after Pedestrian Fatally Struck by SUV in Wilmington

Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver of an SUV responsible for a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man in Wilmington. The victim was tragically struck while lighting fireworks in the street on North Fries Avenue near West G Street.

Emergency services were summoned to the scene just after 9:10 p.m. on Monday. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the SUV was traveling at a high speed north on Fries when it collided with the pedestrian.

Regrettably, the victim was dragged for approximately 85 feet before being dislodged from the undercarriage of the SUV. As a result, the pedestrian was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene, fulfilling their legal obligations by providing aid and assistance.

However, the driver of the SUV fled the scene without stopping or rendering any aid, which is a violation of the law. Medical professionals declared the victim dead on-site, and their identity is being withheld until their family is notified.

Residents who provide valuable information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the hit-and-run driver can be eligible for a reward of up to $50,000. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Moreno or Officer Kim of the LAPD’s South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500.
