Susan Weber, formerly associated with Soros, successfully sells her NYC residence for $24.5M

Susan Weber, the former wife of billionaire George Soros, has finally found a buyer for her Central Park West penthouse after more than a decade on the market. The 6,000-square-foot duplex was originally listed for $50 million but eventually sold for less than what Weber had paid for it. The current asking price was $24.5 million, which is less than half of the original price from 2012. Weber purchased the apartment for $25 million in 2006, but it failed to attract buyers despite multiple price drops over the years.

Weber’s son, Alexander Soros, has recently been entrusted with his father’s $25 billion fortune, including the nonprofit organization, Open Society Foundation. Weber herself was formerly the executive director of the Open Society Institute and has also founded and directed the Bard Graduate Center, a prestigious institution for decorative arts, design history, and material culture studies.

The penthouse, located at 115 Central Park West, also known as the Majestic, features a spacious five-bedroom layout with nearly 900 square feet of outdoor space and breathtaking views of Central Park. The private elevator landing leads to a corner living room, a great room with an open chef’s kitchen, and a terrace overlooking the park, as well as the San Remo and Fifth Avenue. The main bedroom suite offers park views, a home office, two dressing rooms, a luxurious bathroom, and another terrace.

The property has experienced a turbulent journey in the real estate market. It was initially listed for $50 million in 2012 and has since been on and off the market several times. Now, with the sale finally in contract, Weber can move on from this chapter.

The Majestic is a 29-story, twin-towered Art Deco co-op building that was constructed in 1929. It stands across from the iconic Dakota building and offers amenities such as a gym, a playroom, a rooftop solarium, a terrace, bike storage, and storage bins.

The listing brokers for the property, Lisa K. Lippman and Gerard “Scott” Moore of Brown Harris Stevens, have chosen not to comment on the sale.
