Boss of under-fire water company takes a 65% pay cut after public outcry over sewage dumping in rivers
Pay cut: Susan Davy, who has run water firm Pennon Group for nearly three years agreed to forgo her £450,000 bonus
Following public outrage over the dumping of sewage in rivers, the CEO of Pennon Group, Susan Davy, took a pay cut of almost two-thirds by giving up her bonus.
Davy, who has been leading the South West Water owner for nearly three years, joined other executives in forgoing her £450,000 bonus as public anger towards the industry grew.
As a result, her total pay fell from £1.53 million the previous year to £543,000, which only includes her base salary, benefits, and pension.
Earlier this month, Pennon faced further backlash after increasing its yearly dividend by 10% to £111.7 million, despite South West Water being fined £2.15 million in April for illegally dumping sewage in rivers and the sea surrounding Devon and Cornwall.
The company is also under investigation by the industry regulator Ofwat for potentially inaccurate reporting of leaks and water usage by customers.
