Sept. 19 (UPI) — An unexpected car trouble led a Wisconsin resident to seek assistance from animal rescuers rather than a mechanic. It turns out, there was a python hiding under the hood of their vehicle.

According to Lori Bankson, the Curator of Animals at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, the 7-foot snake was initially spotted slithering inside a garage on Pecan Street before finding its way under the hood of a parked car.

“Most likely, the snake crawled up into this person’s engine to stay warm and found a cozy spot to hang out for a while,” Bankson explained in an interview with WGBA-TV.

Undeterred by the presence of the snake, the car’s owner determined that it wasn’t in a position to be harmed during a short drive. Hence, they decided to take the vehicle to the sanctuary for assistance.

With the help of Bankson, a colleague, and an animal control officer, the snake was successfully removed from the engine compartment without any harm.

The Green Bay police identified the snake as a jungle python, a species native to Australia, as reported by WHBY.

According to Bankson, it is likely that the python was someone’s pet that managed to escape from a nearby home. The police revealed that owning exotic pets in the city requires permits, and they couldn’t find anyone with a permit to keep jungle pythons.

Currently, the python is under the care of the Wisconsin Humane Society.

“It was quite an exciting afternoon, but we are relieved that everything went smoothly,” Bankson said.
