Supporters of Miracle Mineral Solution Convicted in Florida Court

A Florida family, known as the Grenons, who had been promoting an industrial bleach mixture called Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) as a cure for various health conditions, including COVID-19, were found guilty of federal crimes in Miami. Mark Grenon, 65, and his sons Jonathan, 37, Joseph, 35, and Jordan, 29, were convicted of conspiracy and delivering misbranded drugs after their organization, the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, sold $1 million worth of MMS.

The Grenons, who represented themselves during the trial and chose not to speak or make opening statements, received the guilty verdict after just 30 minutes of jury deliberation. Operating their organization as a “non-religious church,” the Grenons claimed that MMS, which is actually chlorine dioxide, could cure a range of illnesses from Alzheimer’s disease to autism. However, federal authorities clarified that chlorine dioxide is a powerful bleach used in industrial applications and not safe for consumption.

The Grenons had initially founded their church with Jim Humble, who claims to have discovered MMS during a gold mining expedition in South America. Humble, who retired from the church in 2017, did not provide a response to requests for comment. In an interview, Mark Grenon revealed that he promoted MMS using pseudo-science and conspiracy theories, suggesting that man-made toxins, chemicals, medication, and processed foods were intentionally causing diseases for control purposes.

In 2019, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning about the dangers of MMS, citing severe side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, dehydration, and acute liver failure. Subsequently, in April 2020, federal authorities halted the sale of MMS, deeming it unapproved, unproven, and potentially dangerous. However, Jonathan Grenon continued promoting MMS for healing ailments and infections in a YouTube video posted in July 2020, leading to the charges against him and his family.

During the investigation, authorities found materials to manufacture MMS at Jonathan Grenon’s home, including large quantities of sodium chlorite powder, thousands of bottles of MMS, and loaded firearms. While Jonathan and Jordan Grenon were taken into custody, Mark and Joseph were in Colombia, where they were accused of building a medical misinformation movement. They were eventually extradited back to the U.S. in 2022 after being arrested in August 2020.

The Genesis II Church of Health and Healing gained global attention during the COVID-19 pandemic, with officials in Bolivia suggesting the consumption of chlorine dioxide to treat the virus and Mexican celebrity Verónica del Castillo claiming to use the substance for protection. The Grenons are set to be sentenced on October 6. Despite their arrest and trial, followers of their church continue to promote MMS on a forum now called The Chlorine Dioxide Forum.
