Suella Braverman’s position secure despite speeding fine controversy

Amid concerns of participants secretly filming an online driving safety course, there was a debate as to whether Mrs. Braverman should attend an in-person session instead. Eventually, in November 2022, Mrs. Braverman opted to pay the fine.

In her letter, Mrs. Braverman expressed regret, stating, “I realize that my efforts to find a suitable way to participate in the course may have been interpreted as a potential conflict of interest. Looking back, it would have been wiser to accept the penalty upfront.”

Towards the end of the letter, Mrs. Braverman conveyed her remorse regarding the handling of the speeding fine and offered a semi-apology. “I explored the possibility of customized arrangements due to my unique circumstances as a security-protected minister. I understand how this could be misconstrued as an attempt to evade punishment – however, that was never my intention,” she explained.

She further added, “Despite this, considering the paramount importance of integrity in public life, I deeply regret any perception that my actions may have caused and I apologize for the ensuing distraction.”
