Success Academy achieves high scores on standardized tests, refuting Democrats’ claims

Recent data continues to debunk the Democrats’ claim that standardized tests are inherently discriminatory. Success Academy, following a groundbreaking study that showcased its superior educational methods compared to traditional public schools, has achieved outstanding results on New York’s state Regent exams.

All 8th-grade students from Success Academy took multiple Regents exams, originally designed for 11th and 12th graders. These charter students, predominantly low-income black and Hispanic individuals—groups that the left often claims cannot perform well on standardized tests—exceeded expectations and excelled in these exams.

An astonishing 99.8% of students passed the algebra Regents, with 47% achieving the highest score of 5. Additionally, 94.6% passed the English exam, and 96% passed biology. Even younger students exhibited remarkable performance, as 90% of Success Academy’s 7th graders passed the global history and geography Regents.

Comparatively, the pass rates for algebra were 57% among high school students in New York City in 2022, with 65% passing in biology, 73% in English, and 74% in global history.

Meanwhile, the falsehood of “systemic racism” and pressure from teacher unions to conceal the inadequacies of public schools have driven the progressive-controlled state Board of Regents to wage war against these exams. They have not only canceled exams outright but also diluted the passing criteria.

A commission of “experts” appointed by the board is currently working on a comprehensive report to justify the complete elimination of the Regents Exams. Additionally, many members of the Legislature persistently seek to stifle the entire charter school sector.

Access to quality education is the most crucial tool for empowering the underprivileged. However, it is perplexing that the New York “progressive” agenda includes opposition to strong public schools like charters, as well as high academic standards.
