Philcycling (Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines) expressed its full support for Ariana Evangelista, a female mountain biker, after she failed a doping test during the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The country’s cycling federation issued a statement deeming Evangelista’s provisional suspension unfortunate as she tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO), a banned performance-enhancing substance.
“It is unfortunate that one of our finest MTB riders, Ariana Evangelista, is PROVISIONALLY suspended for Adverse Analytical Findings or AAFs,” Philcycling stated following the release of the results by the International Testing Agency.
“The PhilCycling Federation will provide full support to our athlete within the regulations of the WADA Independent Observers, WADA, NADO-Philippines, Olympic Council of Asia, and Union Cycliste Internationale.

“Philcycling, like all national federations under the Philippine Olympic Committee, will always support its athletes and promote fair play in our sport while condemning the use of illegal substances and doping,” Philcycling added.
Philcycling also urged the public to withhold judgment until the final result is announced.
Evangelista competed the day after the test on September 25 and finished 13th in the women’s cross-country Olympic mountain bike event.
She was one of three athletes in the past 24 hours who failed a doping test at the continental meet, along with Uzbekistan cyclist Aleksey Fomovskiy and Saudi Arabian runner Mohammad Yousif Alasiri.
