Stevie Nicks Is Hooked on ‘Daisy Jones & the Six’ and Craves More

Stevie Nicks has finally endorsed the Prime Video series, Daisy Jones & the Six, which was inspired by Fleetwood Mac.

Based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel, Daisy Jones features Riley Keough, who graced the cover of VF, delivering an Emmy-nominated performance as the Stevie Nicks-esque rock star. Sam Claflin portrays Billy Dunne, the frontman and lead guitarist, a character based on Lindsey Buckingham, Nicks’s former partner in Fleetwood Mac. The 10-episode show delves into their turbulent breakup during the recording of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic 1977 album, Rumours. Reid’s novel was published in 2019, and the series premiered in March of this year. However, Nicks had remained silent on both—until now.

Stevie Nicks took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a still from the series, expressing her satisfaction. She wrote, “Just finished watching Daisy Jones + the Six for the 2nd time. In the beginning, it wasn’t really my story, but Riley seamlessly, soon became my story. It brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story. It was very emotional for me.”

Nicks also paid tribute to her late friend, Christine McVie, the inspiration for the character played by Suki Waterhouse in Daisy Jones. She stated, “I just wish Christine could have seen it. She would have loved it. Hopefully it will continue…” This remark has sparked speculation about a potential second season.

Several cast members, including Keough, Claflin, Camila Morrone (Emmy-nominated), and Waterhouse, responded to Nicks’s post with enthusiastic emojis. Reese Witherspoon, whose company Hello Sunshine produced the series, commented, “Oh my stars, Stevie!! This means the world to the whole team! Thank YOU for cutting the path!”

It was during an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this year that Keough discovered Lindsey Buckingham had acknowledged Daisy Jones, although not as extensively as Nicks. Buckingham hinted at their breakup on TikTok, sharing a clip from a 1997 performance of “Silver Springs,” a song Nicks had written about him. Keough confirmed their split, saying, “Yes we are.”

The author of Daisy Jones revealed that Nicks and Buckingham’s live performance of “Landslide” in 1997 was the inspiration behind her book. In a 2019 essay for Hello Sunshine, Reid wrote, “I kept coming back to that moment when Lindsey watched Stevie sing ‘Landslide.’ How it looked so much like two people in love. And yet, we’ll never truly know what lived between them. I wanted to write a story about that, about how the lines between real life and performance can get blurred, about how singing about old wounds might keep them fresh.”

Reid admitted in a 2019 interview with The Guardian that she was uncertain if any of the band members were aware of her novel. She clarified that while Daisy Jones has a Fleetwood Mac essence, it is not their story. She simply wanted an excuse to immerse herself in Rumours again.
