Steven Cleary, Covid conspiracy theorist, mandated to provide compensation after assaulting police officer in Warrnambool with a baseball bat

Steven Cleary, a Covid conspiracy theorist, has been ordered to pay $75,000 in compensation to a police officer he attacked with a baseball bat in Warrnambool. The officer, Senior Constable Rowan Baldam, was struck multiple times in the back of the head and arms during the incident. Cleary, who claimed to be ‘The King’ during his arrest, pleaded guilty to several charges, including assault on an emergency worker. County Court judge Caitlin English ruled that Cleary must pay the compensation to Snr Const Baldam for the ongoing pain and suffering caused by the injuries. The incident occurred when the officers approached a teenager who was not wearing a face mask. Cleary rushed to the scene and attacked the officers, while the teenager attempted to take one of their firearms. Cleary was eventually apprehended and tasered by backup officers. Snr Const Baldam feared for his life during the attack, and Cleary’s delusional beliefs about the Covid pandemic were taken into account during sentencing. The compensation payment may result in the sale of Cleary’s home, where his wife and two children currently reside.
