Stephen King Predicts that this Film from 2022 Could Become a ‘Classic’ in Just Two Decades

Prolific author Stephen King recently expressed his belief that director Damien Chazelle’s film “Babylon” has the potential to become a classic in the next twenty years.

In a tweet posted on Twitter, King praised the movie, which is set to release in 2022, as “utterly brilliant” and described it as extravagant, thought-provoking, and hilarious.

Furthermore, King compared “Babylon” to his own novel adaptation, “The Shining,” stating that it may follow a similar trajectory of receiving mixed reviews upon release, but eventually being acclaimed as a classic.

Indeed, “The Shining” initially faced criticism upon its 1980 release, but has since garnered a strong reputation as one of the best horror films of all time, even being added to the National Film Registry in 2018.

Meanwhile, “Babylon,” a story set in 1920s Hollywood, currently holds a 57% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. While some critics find the film overwhelming, they also acknowledge its well-acted and well-crafted glitz and glamour as effective distractions.

Philip Shea, a senior editor at Law360, joined the conversation and referred to “Babylon” as an “impending cult classic,” noting that its flaws make it more endearing in a strange way. King agreed with Shea’s assessment, expressing his approval.
