The Parliamentary Ombudsman recently determined that the Department for Work and Pensions failed in providing clear communication regarding changes in the state pension age. However, no recommendations for redress have been published by the Ombudsman yet.
Angela Madden, leader of the “Waspi” campaign, expressed her frustration, stating, “For the 250,000 women who have tragically passed away while awaiting resolution, delayed justice is truly denied justice.”
The campaign group revealed that this heartbreaking situation accounts for approximately 100 deaths per day.
Ms. Madden further commented, “The Ombudsman’s investigation has been ongoing for a lengthy five years, with the DWP’s guilt of maladministration confirmed two years ago.
“Subjecting women to even a single additional day of waiting for a fair compensation offer showcases a deplorable disregard for all of us.”
Susan Taylor, a 65-year-old woman affected by the increase in state pension age, shared her story, stating, “Both my sister and I were born in the 1950s and saw our retirement plans completely shattered due to the state pension age debacle.
“I lost my sister at the age of 59 to cancer, and I myself was diagnosed with lung cancer at 62. My quality of life is nonexistent, and the financial burdens I face are overwhelming. Some days, it’s incredibly difficult to envision anything but a miserable end to a lifetime of hard work as the fight for justice for countless women persists.”
