North Korean state media has published a political analysis that mocks the U.S. government for its recent visit to China, referring to it as a “disgraceful begging trip.” In a report from the Korean Central News Agency, North Korean political analyst Jong Yong-hak criticizes U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s trip and accuses the U.S. of provoking first and then hypocritically talking about responsible control over differences in opinion.
During Blinken’s visit, he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the two leaders shook hands in front of photographers. At a subsequent press conference, Blinken emphasized the significance of the relationship between the United States and China, stating that both countries have a responsibility to manage it responsibly. The discussions also touched on issues related to North Korea, Russia’s actions in Ukraine, and concerns about China’s actions in the Taiwan Strait.
Following the meeting, North Korean state media condemned the U.S. for allegedly retracting its efforts to pressure China, suggesting that the visit amounted to surrender. It also cited experts who claim that China has been emboldened by Blinken’s misguided trip, in which he allegedly threw Taiwan under the bus.
Blinken’s visit to China had initially been planned months ago but faced delays due to the appearance of a surveillance balloon believed to have come from China. However, the trip eventually took place, and Blinken made it clear that the U.S. does not support Taiwanese independence and opposes any unilateral changes to the status quo.
