Special Counsel Interviews Rudy Giuliani Regarding Trump Election Interference Probe

The Justice Department’s special counsel investigators recently conducted an interview with Rudy Giuliani as part of their investigation into alleged interference with the lawful transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election. Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, confirmed that the interview was voluntary and conducted professionally.

During the interview, Giuliani was questioned about fundraising activities and meetings that occurred between November 3, 2020, and January 6, 2021. This time period coincided with the certification of President-elect Biden’s electoral college victory, which was marred by a deadly riot at the Capitol.

CNN was the first to report that special counsel investigators interviewed Giuliani. Giuliani served as former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and was part of a group of attorneys who falsely claimed that Trump had won the 2020 election.

The investigators were particularly interested in Giuliani’s meetings at the White House. They inquired about his interactions with other attorneys who supported Trump’s return to office despite his defeat. This included John Eastman, who developed a legal strategy to reject state electoral votes, Sydney Powell, who alleged widespread voter fraud, and Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official who reportedly devised a plan for state legislatures to select new electors.

According to sources, the special counsel did not indicate that Giuliani is a subject of the investigation. The investigation into election interference has gained momentum since Trump was indicted for mishandling documents. In a separate case, Trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 felony charges.

Additionally, the special counsel plans to interview Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in Atlanta. The interview will likely focus on a recorded phone call between Trump and Raffensperger, during which Trump asked for “11,780 votes.”

The Fulton County District Attorney’s office initiated an investigation following the release of the call. The probe has since expanded and includes numerous individuals connected to Trump. The district attorney is expected to announce charging decisions in August.

Trump is already facing criminal charges in a separate case in New York. He pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts related to alleged falsification of business records. Trump’s attorneys are attempting to move the case to federal court but have faced skepticism from the judge regarding their argument.
