The Spanish Prosecutors Office has announced that it will contact Jennifer Hermoso to inform her of her rights as a victim of an alleged crime of sexual aggression within the next 15 days. This decision was made during an “urgent” meeting of federation officials held in response to protests and widespread support for Hermoso.

On August 26th, FIFA suspended Rubiales for 90 days pending disciplinary proceedings. The federation president has faced criticism from players, soccer and government officials, and Spain coach Jorge Vilda. Despite the backlash, Rubiales has refused to resign and labeled the controversy as “fake feminism.”

Rubiales claims that the kiss was consensual and initiated by Hermoso. However, the federation has threatened to take legal action against Hermoso, accusing her of lying about the incident.

Support for Hermoso has grown, with a feminist group planning to hold a protest in Madrid. The “Me Too” movement in Spanish soccer has gained momentum, with players from both the men’s and women’s leagues showing their support for Hermoso by wearing shirts that feature the hashtag “#SeAcabó,” meaning “it’s over.”

The Spain-based feminist group, Feminismos Madrid, intends to hold a protest on Monday night, demanding a sport free of sexist violence.

During Rubiales’ suspension, Pedro Rocha Junco is serving as the interim president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
