SpaceX Cancels Launch of Starlink Satellites

July 19 (UPI) — The countdown for the launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket carrying Starlink satellites came to an abrupt halt just seconds before liftoff on Tuesday.

This mission was meant to add 15 Starlink satellites to the company’s growing constellation in low-Earth orbit, expanding its Internet coverage.

However, with only 5 seconds remaining before the scheduled launch time of 10:25 p.m. from Vandenberg Space Force Base, the mission had to be postponed.

Zach Luppen from SpaceX explained during the live broadcast that they are extremely cautious on the ground and will halt the countdown if anything seems even slightly amiss.

He reassured viewers that both the vehicle and the payload were in good condition.

Despite the foggy night in Santa Barbara County, weather conditions were not cited as a reason for the launch delay.

A backup launch opportunity is scheduled for 9:09 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

This launch would have been the 48th of the year for SpaceX and the 247th of all time.
