S&P/TSX Composite Plunges Over 300 Points in Morning Trading, US Stocks Show Similar Decline

Canada’s primary stock index experienced a decline in late-morning trading on Wednesday, reflecting the downward trend in U.S. markets as well.

The S&P/TSX composite index fell by 384.02 points to 20,148.91.

In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 288.59 points at 35,342.09. The S&P 500 index experienced a decrease of 59.25 points, settling at 4,517.48, while the Nasdaq composite declined by 290.49 points to reach 13,993.42.

The Canadian dollar traded at 74.95 cents US compared to Tuesday’s rate of 75.24 cents US.

The September crude oil contract saw a decline of US$1.78, settling at US$79.59 per barrel, while the September natural gas contract decreased by nine cents to US$2.47 per mmBTU.

The December gold contract experienced a decrease of US$7.60, reaching US$1971.20 per ounce, and the September copper contract declined by six cents to US$3.85 per pound.
