Southland Gas Prices Slump for the 18th Straight Day: Here’s What You Need to Know

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County has continued to drop, marking 18 consecutive days of decline. The price has decreased by 3.9 cents, reaching $5.744 per gallon.

Over the course of the past 18 days, the average price has fallen by 57.1 cents. Yesterday, it decreased by 1 cent. These figures are sourced from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

This decrease in prices follows a previous trend of 23 increases in 25 days, totaling 91.8 cents. This surge had raised the average price to its highest level since Oct. 11, 2022.

Compared to a week ago, the current average price is now 21 cents lower. It is also 12.3 cents lower than a month ago and 36.3 cents lower compared to the previous year. Moreover, it has dropped a significant 75 cents since reaching a record high of $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

In Orange County, the average price has also dropped for 18 consecutive days, with a decrease of 3.2 cents, bringing it to $5.566. Over the past 18 days, the price has fallen by 72.2 cents, including a decrease of six-tenths of a cent yesterday.

When compared to a week ago, the average price in Orange County is now 21.8 cents lower. It is also 30.4 cents lower than a month ago and 41.2 cents lower compared to the previous year. Similar to Los Angeles County, it has also dropped significantly since reaching a record high of $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022, with a decrease of 89.3 cents.

Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager, explained that the current price fluctuations are a return to normalcy after the price spike caused by the shortage of summer blend fuel. Shupe added that with the availability of winter blend fuel, prices are expected to continue decreasing.

On a national level, the average price has dropped for the 19th consecutive day and for the 27th time in the past 29 days. It decreased by 1.6 cents to reach $3.584. Over the past 29 days, the average price has fallen by 29.7 cents, including a decrease of one-tenth of a cent yesterday.

Nationally, the average price is now 9.8 cents lower than a week ago, 29.2 cents lower than a month ago, and 30.4 cents lower than the previous year. It has dropped a significant $1.432 since reaching a record high of $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
