Smashing Victory over Choco Mucho: Pons and Negrito Step Up as Creamline Shines Despite Absent Stars

Creamline’s Unpredictability Shines in Recent Victory

Late on Sunday night, Creamline showcased a different lineup that led to their success. Bernadeth Pons emerged as the team’s leading scorer, while Kyle Negrito controlled the offense. Tots Carlos and Alyssa Valdez made valuable contributions despite limited playing time. Their regular setter, Jia de Guzman, was absent as she played abroad. Additionally, key players Kyla Atienza and Ced Domingo were unable to participate due to health issues. However, the Cool Smashers’ signature pink uniforms and their strong team culture remained constant.

According to Valdez, the unique aspect of the team is the mutual inspiration and motivation among the players. She expressed her delight in the respect they have for one another and the culture they foster.

Creamline’s distinct culture proved to be a determining factor in their Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference match against the Flying Titans. Coach Sherwin Meneses faces a “good problem” due to the team’s unpredictability. Valdez stated that it is difficult to predict who will play since every member of the team deserves a chance. Meneses sees this as an advantage and believes that Creamline’s veterans will easily adjust.

In their recent victory against Choco Mucho, Pons led the team with 22 points, closely followed by Michele Gumabao with 20 points. Negrito, who has big shoes to fill, showcased her exceptional setting skills with 23 excellent sets. Meneses expressed his satisfaction with their performance against a tough opponent and emphasized the team’s adaptability.

Despite a shaky start with a few errors, Creamline quickly regained their composure. Choco Mucho struggled to find answers, even with the impressive performance of Sisi Rondina, who scored 21 points. Pons played a vital role in foiling the Flying Titans’ tactics, contributing not only with her scoring but also with her excellent digs and receptions.

As Meneses manages his talented roster, Creamline aims to establish their rhythm early in the season. They hope to be in a strong position when their injured starters return. Valdez emphasized the importance of staying healthy throughout the conference and the need for teamwork in every aspect of the game.
