In an interview with Radio NV, former Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin stated that Slovakia is actually the most pro-Russian country in Central Europe, contrary to popular belief in Ukraine that Hungary holds this title.
Klimkin emphasized, “According to several polls, Slovakia is the most pro-Russian country overall, both in the European Union and, of course, in Central Europe.”
During a recent EU summit, both Hungary and Slovakia expressed their opposition to providing a €50 billion aid package to Ukraine.
Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, communicated to the President of the European Commission that his government would not offer military assistance to Ukraine.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, drew attention to Slovakia’s significant Russian influence, describing it as “crazy.”
In a separate incident, Slovakia accused Russia of meddling in their parliamentary elections, which resulted in a victory for the pro-Russian Smer-SD party led by Fico.
