Sky Ireland’s Revenues Surge to £531m in 2022

The recently released accounts for Sky Subscribers Services Ltd in the UK show a slight increase in revenues from £526m to £531m last year. These revenues pertain to the provision of “direct to home” pay television, broadband, and telephony services in Ireland.

In comparison, Sky Ireland’s revenues are nearly three times the €196.2m collected by An Post in TV license fees for RTÉ in the same period. Sky Ireland currently boasts approximately 700,000 subscribers.

Sky Subscribers Services Ltd overall witnessed a marginal increase in revenues to £1.05bn, while its pre-tax profits rose by 24.5% to £61m.

The success of Sky Ireland contributed to Sky UK Ltd’s total revenues, which grew by 4% from £9.8bn to £10.2bn in the previous year.

The directors noted that the increase in prices across TV and communication products reflects the added value provided in these areas.

Sky UK’s programming costs decreased by £114m in the previous year, primarily due to the impact of the World Cup on the 2022/23 football season. The staging of the World Cup temporarily disrupted Sky’s main sports product, the English Premier League.

Sky’s sales, general, and administration costs increased due to higher marketing, logistics, launch, and delivery expenses, as well as higher technology costs.

Sky Ireland demonstrated exceptional performance within the Sky Subscribers business as revenues from group support services declined.

Due to Brexit implications, Sky has established a warehouse in Dublin to cater to EU markets and avoid border issues between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Sky employs nearly 1,000 individuals in Ireland, offering various roles in sales, marketing, retail, support, and customer service.
