Singer Calls Off Global Tour to Accommodate Tourette Syndrome

Following a challenging performance at the Glastonbury Festival, Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has made the decision to cancel his world tour. After revealing his Tourette syndrome diagnosis last fall, the 26-year-old musician states that he is taking a break “for the foreseeable future” in order to adapt to the impact of his condition, according to the Guardian. Capaldi had already cancelled three weeks of shows prior to the festival for rest and recovery, but vocal issues arose Saturday, resulting in the audience joining in to sing some of his songs for him. The BBC refers to this as “a wonderful, communal display of both the Glastonbury spirit, and the genuine public affection for Capaldi.”

At the conclusion of his set on Saturday, Capaldi informed the audience that they may not see much of him for the remainder of the year. In a statement on Monday, he expressed his gratitude to Glastonbury for their support and the heartfelt messages he received afterwards. Capaldi acknowledged the need for more time to prioritize his mental and physical health in order to continue pursuing his passions in the long term.

Capaldi had been scheduled to perform in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday as part of an extensive tour that included dates in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and east Asia. Following the release of the Netflix documentary How I’m Feeling Now earlier this year, Capaldi shared with the AP his satisfaction in receiving a diagnosis for his symptoms. However, he expressed his intention to not delve too deeply into learning about his condition, as doing so often exacerbated his well-being. (Read more singer stories.)
