June 28 (UPI) — Simone Biles, the renowned gymnast, will make her comeback to the sport at the U.S. Classic in August, marking her first competition since the dramatic events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, tournament organizers announced on Wednesday.

Alongside Biles, fellow Olympic gold medalists Suni Lee and Jade Carey will also be participating in the competition held at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill. on August 4 and 5.

Biles, widely recognized as the greatest gymnast in history, was expected to achieve great success at the 2020 Summer Games. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Games were postponed to 2021.

Initially, Biles participated in the women’s team competition but withdrew after her first vault rotation on July 27. As a result, she had to skip the individual all-around, vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

Citing mental health concerns as her reason for taking a break, Biles returned a week after her initial exit and won a bronze medal in the balance beam final on August 3 in Tokyo.

This third-place finish brought her total Olympic medal count to eight at the age of 26.

Lee, 20, achieved gold, silver, and bronze medals in Tokyo, while Carey, 23, won gold in the floor exercise.

Other top female gymnasts who will be competing at the U.S. Classic include Team USA’s Jordan Chilles, Leanne Wong, Kayla DiCello, Skye Blakely, and Melanie de Jesus dos Santos.

Yul Moldauer and Shane Wiskus, who represented Team USA in Tokyo, will be among the top male competitors at the event in Hoffman Estates.

Additionally, Donnell Whittenburg and Stephen Nedoroscik are notable male gymnasts participating in the competition.

Viewers can catch the U.S. Classic coverage on the USA Gymnastics YouTube channel.
