Simon Pegg shares Tom Cruise’s one camera taboo

Simon Pegg recently revealed that there is one thing Tom Cruise will never do on-screen: deliver an authentic British accent. As the duo returns for the latest installment of the Mission Impossible film series, Pegg joked that while Cruise is fearless when it comes to daring stunts, his attempt at a British accent is quite comical. The highly anticipated film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, is set to hit UK cinemas on July 10.

During a conversation with Chris Moyles on his Radio X show, Pegg also shared a funny incident that occurred during filming. Pegg crashed a car while Cruise was sitting in the passenger’s seat, highlighting the stark difference between their on-screen and off-screen personas. Pegg jokingly stated that he laughed off the accident, as it wasn’t his car to worry about, unlike Cruise who takes on death-defying stunts.

When asked about what he excels at compared to Cruise, Pegg humorously responded that he is better at accents. He revealed that they often have fun on set, and hearing Cruise attempt a British accent is always a source of amusement. Pegg then mentioned that Cruise is eager to meet his longtime friend and collaborator, Nick Frost, but Frost is less enthusiastic about the idea. Pegg playfully suggested that Frost is being passive-aggressive and not interested in meeting Cruise’s new friend.

Despite the playful banter, Pegg expressed his admiration for Frost and stated that they always support and celebrate each other’s accomplishments. He emphasized that while he will continue to work with Frost, he is proud of his friend’s work in other projects.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One promises to be an intense ride as Ethan Hunt and his team face their most challenging mission yet. They must find a dangerous weapon that poses a threat to humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance and Ethan’s past catching up with him, a race against time ensues. In the face of an enigmatic and powerful enemy, Ethan must prioritize his mission above all else, even if it means putting the lives of his loved ones at risk.

In a recent interview, Cruise explained why he and director Christopher McQuarrie decided to film the riskiest stunt first. The scene involves Cruise riding a motorcycle off a cliff and using a parachute to land safely while the bike crashes. By shooting this sequence first, they ensured that any potential injuries would not disrupt the entire $200 million production. Cruise emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and precision during such demanding stunts. He stated that being mentally and physically prepared was crucial to executing the scene flawlessly.

Cruise’s dedication to completing the dangerous stunt right at the beginning of filming reflects his commitment to delivering a high-quality film. Instead of splitting his attention between different sequences, Cruise wanted to tackle the most challenging part first. This mindset allowed the entire cast and crew to be fully prepared and focused on achieving the best results.

The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X airs on weekdays from 6:30 am to 10 am and is also available on the Global Player.
