Show ‘Succession’ Dominates Primetime Emmy Nominations, Garnering Record 27 Nods

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced, and “Succession” emerged as the frontrunner with 27 nominations. It was followed by “The Last of Us” with 24, “The White Lotus” with 23, and “Ted Lasso” with 21.

“Succession,” the HBO series about a wealthy family that owns a global media company, received its fourth nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. The show had previously won the award twice.

The series also received three nominations for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, with Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong all recognized. Sarah Snook was nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Other nominees in the drama series category include “Stars Wars: Andor,” “Better Call Saul,” “The Crown,” “Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” and “Yellowjackets.”

For Lead Actor in a Drama Series, the nominees include Jeff Bridges for “The Old Man,” Bob Odenkirk for “Better Call Saul,” and Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us.”

In the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, the nominees are Sharon Horgan for “Bad Sisters,” Melanie Lynskey for “Yellowjackets,” Elisabeth Moss for “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Bella Ramsey for “The Last of Us,” and Keri Russell for “The Diplomat.”

The nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series went to “Abbott Elementary,” “Barry,” “The Bear,” “Jury Duty,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Ted Lasso,” and “Wednesday.”

“Ted Lasso” has a chance to win its third consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series award. Jason Sudeikis also received a nomination for Lead Actor in a Comedy.

In the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category, the nominees are Christina Applegate for “Dead To Me,” Rachel Brosnahan for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Quinta Brunson for “Abbott Elementary,” Natasha Lyonne for “Poker Face,” and Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday.”

Notable snubs include Steve Martin and Selena Gomez for “Only Murders” and Harrison Ford and Kevin Costner for various roles.

In the Best Limited or Anthology Series category, the nominees are “Beef,” “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” “Daisy Jones & The Six,” “Fleishman Is In Trouble,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

“The Crown” was eligible for nomination again this year after not releasing new episodes during the last eligibility period. It has been nominated in each of its four seasons.

“The White Lotus” received a nomination in the drama series category after winning awards for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series and outstanding producer of episodic television, drama.

The Outstanding Game Show category has been renamed as Outstanding Reality Competition Program to avoid confusion.

The nominations for the new category include “The Amazing Race,” “Ru Paul’s Drag Race,” “Survivor,” “Top Chef,” and “The Voice.”

The nominations were announced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chair Frank Scherma at a virtual ceremony.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 18, with the Creative Arts Emmys taking place on September 9-10. The ceremonies may be at risk of postponement due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike and a potential SAG-AFTRA actors union strike.

The Daytime Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for June, were postponed due to the writers strike.
