A robber in England has been handed a three-year jail sentence for attempted robbery, thanks to the quick thinking of his courageous victim. Detective Sergeant Paul Mawson of Durham Constabulary described the arrest as straightforward, as the victim took swift action to ensure the robber’s capture.
The incident occurred when 30-year-old Martin Trimble entered a convenience store in Durham City brandishing a knife. Threatening the store owner, Trimble grabbed a four-pack of beer. Instead of letting him escape, the quick-witted store owner bolted out and secured the door, effectively trapping the robber inside.
To further prevent Trimble’s escape, the owner lowered the store shutter. However, the determined robber managed to free himself by breaking the door and trying to slip out. Unfortunately for him, the shutter was too low, resulting in his torso being pinned to the ground, leaving him exposed to the public eye.
In a humorous turn of events, Trimble cracked open one of the stolen beers and enjoyed a drink while awaiting the arrival of the police. Within three minutes of receiving the call, officers arrived and placed Trimble under arrest. Ultimately, he pled guilty to charges of attempted robbery and possession of a knife, leading to his sentencing on June 16.
