Shocking Revelation: His Kidney Was Surgically Removed Without Consent While Visiting the Doctor

In a shocking and illegal development, Pakistani police have uncovered an organ harvesting ring that operated with the assistance of a car mechanic who administered anesthesia. Alongside Dr. Fawad Mukhtar, the mechanic, and six others have been apprehended. According to CNN, they are accused of performing 328 operations in which patients had their kidneys removed without their knowledge and sold to wealthy individuals in need of transplants. Surprisingly, these organs fetched prices as high as $34,000 each.

Mohsin Naqvi, the chief minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, expressed concern that there may be more undisclosed operations. As reported by CNN, the suspects enticed patients from hospitals, persuading them to seek treatment in private residences. AFP reveals that one victim only discovered his missing kidney when he visited another doctor for follow-up care. Subsequently, he reported the incident to the police, resulting in a two-month investigation.

The police have attributed three deaths to the organ harvesting activities. Naqvi expressed deep concern about the alarming statistics, commenting, “The facts and figures that have come to us make the heart tremble.” Pakistan outlawed the commercial trade of organs in 2010, with offenders facing up to 10 years in prison and substantial fines, reports the BBC. However, media reports indicate that organ harvesting is resurging due to the country’s economic conditions. (Read more organ harvesting stories.)
