Shocking Incident: Investigation Reveals Allegations of Corona Mom Fatally Striking 6-Year-Old Son

A Corona mother suspected of deliberately running over and killing her 6-year-old son as he chased after her vehicle has been released from custody on a $55,000 bond. Melissa Damron, 42, was arrested on Thursday for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment in the death of Duner Larson.

Duner was fatally injured on August 22nd in front of their family home on Sallie Jeffreys Way in Corona. The incident occurred around 7:55 a.m. on a secluded street with only a few properties.

According to the Corona Police Department, their investigation revealed that Duner’s mother purposely locked him out of the vehicle before driving away. Despite Duner chasing after the car and attempting to open the door, Melissa continued driving, resulting in Duner falling into the roadway and being run over by the car.

After being taken to the nearby Corona Regional Medical Center, Duner passed away less than an hour later. Patrol officers initially questioned Damron, but the investigation did not initially provide enough evidence for an arrest. The case was then handed over to traffic bureau investigators.

The police department stated that evidence showed Melissa was aware that Duner was in close proximity to the vehicle, presenting a danger. They concluded that she drove with gross negligence, ultimately causing her son’s death. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the incident.

The case has now been submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Corona police Officer Jacob Westall at [email protected].
