Shocking Incident: Democratic Congressman Targeted by Carjacker in Washington DC

In a shocking incident on Monday night, a Democratic congressman, Henry Cuellar, was carjacked at gunpoint in Washington, D.C. Fortunately, Cuellar is safe and his vehicle has been recovered. The incident occurred in the Navy Yard area, just a mile away from the U.S. Capitol, as reported by the Washington Post. Sources from ABC News revealed that a congressional alert indicated Cuellar, a 68-year-old congressman from Texas, was attacked by three to four armed men who not only stole his car but also his phone. Cuellar’s spokesperson confirmed the carjacking incident.

Jacob Hochberg, Cuellar’s chief of staff, stated, “As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, [three] armed assailants approached the congressman and stole his vehicle. Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement.” The carjacking occurred around 9:30 pm local time, near an area in D.C. where numerous lawmakers reside in apartment and condominium buildings, according to the Post.

According to DC Police, there have been 750 carjackings in Washington, D.C. this year, with three-quarters of them involving firearms, as reported by ABC. It’s worth noting that this is the second attack on a member of Congress in D.C. this year. In February, Angie Craig, a Democratic representative from Minnesota, was assaulted in the elevator of her apartment building. Craig managed to fend off her attacker by throwing hot coffee at him. Fortunately, she escaped without serious injury.
