Sherry-Lehmann’s NYC Store Subject to FBI Raid amidst Legal Controversy

The FBI raided the Park Avenue store of renowned wine seller Sherry-Lehmann on Tuesday, signifying the escalating legal troubles faced by the vintner. Sources reveal that federal agents, as part of a multi-law enforcement agency investigation, arrived at the store in the morning and remained on-site until evening. A Post reporter was informed by a law enforcement officer, wearing an FBI T-shirt, that the store was closed. Another officer, part of the “FBI-NYPD Gang Taskforce,” was also present at the scene. The agents were observed carrying boxes from the premises. While an agent inside the store declined to disclose their purpose, it is evident that the FBI’s involvement in this ongoing investigation is significant.

It should be noted that the New York State Liquor Authority shut down Sherry-Lehmann on March 10 due to the sale of alcohol without a valid license. Since then, the store has not resumed operations. Owners Shyda Gilmer and Kris Green are under investigation for allegations of selling wine to customers and failing to deliver it, including orders worth over $1 million. The FBI’s search at Sherry-Lehmann indicates a deepening probe into these allegations. Former employees have also shared that they have been interviewed by FBI agents in recent weeks. One former employee speculates that the agents might have been examining the store’s computer system and records.

Despite multiple attempts, neither Gilmer nor Green have responded to requests for comment, leaving many questions unanswered. The owners have also faced criticism for allegedly selling wine stored in their Wine Caves warehouse, which actually belonged to customers paying a monthly fee for storage. Additionally, it was previously reported that Sherry-Lehmann owes $2.7 million in unpaid sales tax to the state of New York. The ongoing investigations by the SLA and the FBI will determine the appropriate actions to be taken against Sherry-Lehmann. Readers may note that the company’s website has been inactive since the July 4 weekend, and its former spokesperson, Eric Andrus, has confirmed that he is no longer representing the company.
