Former President Donald Trump, along with the other 18 co-defendants charged in the Georgia 2020 election subversion case, is expected to surrender at the Fulton County jail, according to a statement by the local sheriff on Tuesday.

Trump, who faces 13 counts including racketeering, has not publicly revealed when he plans to surrender, but the deadline set by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is August 25. The statement from the Fulton County sheriff’s office clarifies where Trump will be arrested and processed as a criminal defendant.

“Based on guidance from the district attorney’s office and the presiding judge, it is expected that all 19 defendants mentioned in the indictment will be booked at the Rice Street Jail,” states the official statement.

The news release also notes that defendants can turn themselves in at any time as the jail operates 24/7. It emphasizes that due to the unique nature of the case, circumstances may change with little or no warning.

The majority of defendants in Fulton County are typically booked at the Fulton County jail, and Sheriff Pat Labat has expressed his intention to treat the defendants in the Trump election subversion case no differently than any other defendants.

“Unless someone tells me differently, we will be following normal practices. It doesn’t matter your status, we will have mug shots ready for you,” Labat stated in an earlier interview on CNN.

Now, the sheriff will need to negotiate with the Secret Service and Trump’s attorneys regarding the logistics of Trump’s surrender. Typically, defendants who are not immediately arrested after indictment negotiate bond and other terms of release with the district attorney’s office.

Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s former lawyer and a co-defendant in the case, announced on WABC talk radio that he will voluntarily surrender to authorities next week and expects to post bail. He stated, “Kind of silly for me to have bail, I mean I showed up there voluntarily and testified.”

The 41-count indictment, unsealed on Monday, outlines a comprehensive investigation led by District Attorney Fani Willis into efforts by Trump’s allies to interfere with the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. It alleges that Trump headed a “criminal enterprise” involved in a broad conspiracy to overturn his electoral defeat in the state.

The charges in the indictment include false statements and solicitation of state legislatures and high-ranking state officials, creation and distribution of false Electoral College documents, harassment of election workers, solicitation of Justice Department officials and then-Vice President Mike Pence, unlawful breach of election equipment, and acts of obstruction.

Alongside Giuliani, former Trump lawyers John Eastman and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows are among the defendants. The indictment also implicates 30 unindicted co-conspirators in addition to the charged defendants.

Trump now faces a total of 91 charges across four separate indictments while simultaneously running for president in 2024. He maintains his innocence and dismisses the cases as politically motivated.
