In a shocking turn of events, Bleckley County Sheriff Kristopher Coody has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery for groping TV judge Glenda Hatchett during a law enforcement conference in Georgia last year. As a result, Coody has resigned from his position as sheriff.
During the conference held in January 2022, Hatchett was being introduced to a group of sheriffs at a hotel bar when Coody made his inappropriate move, according to prosecutors. The incident was witnessed by former DeKalb County sheriff, Thomas Brown, who took immediate action by physically removing Coody’s hand from Hatchett’s chest.
Speaking in court, Hatchett expressed the deep impact of the ordeal on her, stating that the violation she experienced was indescribable. In response to Coody’s guilty plea, Judge Carl Bowers sentenced him to one year of probation, a $500 fine, and 400 hours of community service. Meanwhile, Coody’s attorney, Joel Pugh, confirmed that his client had submitted his resignation letter to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
Coody had been serving as the sheriff of Bleckley County since 2017, overseeing a population of approximately 12,000 residents in the rural community situated southeast of Macon.
