Shaya Adorador of the Foton Tornadoes is embracing a bigger role with the team in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference. After her experience with the Philippine women’s volleyball team in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Challenge Cup, Adorador is determined to lead by example and inspire her young teammates. She credits her veteran teammate Aiza Maizo-Pontillas for teaching her how to be a leader.
Adorador expresses her gratitude to the Lord for giving her the strength to fight for the Philippines. She acknowledges that representing the country is a whole different level of commitment. Despite feeling weary from their recent games in the PVL, she remains dedicated and gives her all on the court because she knows that all the teams are tough competitors.
Adorador admits that she still has a lot to learn, especially when it comes to leading the team in crucial moments. She plans to be more vocal and work on their composure and team chemistry. Despite their losing start in the tournament, Adorador trusts the process and appreciates the efforts of her teammates. She doesn’t feel burdened alone as one of the eldest players because they are a new and young team.
Foton coach Brian Esquibel is impressed with Adorador’s determination to lead the team, even with her busy schedule with the national team. He commends her for attending practice and showing her younger teammates what it means to play like Shaya Adorador. With a 10-day break before their next game, Adorador hopes to improve and ultimately secure a spot in the semifinals.
