Shannon Airport’s Vast Model Aircraft Collection: John Travolta Admits to Being a YouTube Follower

As the conversation unfolded, I confidently stated, “I know a thing or two about you too! He absolutely adores the gallery.”

A 72-year-old man named Mr. Kelly has a strong passion for collecting diecast model planes. In 2018, he generously donated 1,500 of these planes to Shannon Airport. Now, he is present in a video unveiling a second gallery that showcases an additional 900 models.

These two permanent exhibitions collectively hold what the airport claims to be the largest private collection of diecast model aircraft worldwide.

While the first gallery from 2018 is located airside in the Departures Lounge exclusively for passengers, the new Aviation Gallery is situated airside opposite JJ Ruddle’s restaurant and accessible to all.

Mr. Kelly, hailing from Co Limerick, developed a serious interest in collecting during his teenage years. However, his fascination with aircraft began as a young boy when he used to spot planes at Shannon Airport with his father.
